THE MOUTH OF THE RIGHTEOUS

I greet all of you with the peace of the Lord. For the thought I wish to share with you today, Saturday 27 July 2024, I will read a biblical verse written in:
Psalm 37:30-31 (NIV)

“The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just. The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip.”

Today's verses offer us a portrait of the righteous. This is not just an individual who observes the rules, but a person whose interiority is profoundly transformed by the Law of God. His words are not the result of a strategic calculation or simple conformity, but arise from a heart in which the divine will has found its home.
The mouth of the righteous, the psalmist tells us, "expresses wise words". Wisdom, in this context, is not just knowledge or intelligence, but the ability to discern good from evil, to understand God's will and to act in accordance with it. It is a wisdom that goes beyond mere intellectual understanding, and that manifests itself in every word spoken.
Furthermore, the tongue of the righteous "speaks with righteousness." Justice, here, is not just an abstract concept, but the concrete practice of giving everyone their due. It is an attitude that is expressed in interpersonal relationships, in social life and in every area of life. The just man, therefore, not only speaks wisely, but also does so with fairness and impartiality.
But what is the source of this wisdom and justice? The psalmist gives us the answer: "The law of God is in his heart." God's law is not a set of external rules to be respected, but a living reality that transforms from within. When God's law dwells in a person's heart, they are able to live an authentic and coherent life.
And what is the result of this internal transformation? “His steps will not falter.” The righteous, rooted in the word of God, walks with confidence and determination, even in the face of difficulties. His life is characterized by a coherence and stability that derives from his profound union with God.

Today we want to pray together to the Lord saying: Father of Love, we thank you for your Word, which is a lamp at our feet and a light on our path. Help us to ensure that your law dwells in our hearts, transforming us more and more into your image and likeness. Give us the grace to speak wise and just words, and to always walk with confidence on the path you show us. In the name of Jesus... Amen!
With love, Ivano Salerno
