What truly makes you happy? Maybe it's a nice day at work, a surprise gift from a friend, a beautiful sunset, or a night out with the family. Today's proverb, however, goes a little deeper... it says that the person who finds wisdom and intelligence is blessed. What could this mean? How can wisdom make us happy?
To understand this, we will have to read in Psalm 111:10 , “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” Wisdom begins with God. He is the author of wisdom. He is the giver of wisdom. The fear of the Lord does not mean being so afraid of Him that we turn away. Instead, it is the reverential feeling of God that brings us closer to Him. Just as a hiker might be in awe of a majestic mountain as he sets out to climb it.
It is easy to gain wisdom; just ask God for it. James 1:5 says, “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” But this isn't just the wisdom for doing well on a test or completing a project well. James 3:17 states, “The wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure; then peaceful, gentle, conciliatory, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, without hypocrisy.” It will keep you connected to God and help you navigate your life according to His perfect will. Seek wisdom and understanding from the Lord and you will find true happiness in the business.
Together we pray to the Lord saying to him: God of heaven, I thank you for how you exhort me. Give me wisdom and intelligence so that I can be an instrument in Your hands for Your glory. In the name of Jesus... Amen!
